Testing Priority

Optimizing Patient Care by Prioritizing Test Orders

Precision Lab Services offers tests at three priority levels.  The priority level defines a turn-around time expectation for tests.  The following turnaround priorities are defined at Precision Lab Services

Turnaround Time Standard:  1 hour after specimen reaches laboratory.

The following tests have been identified by the laboratory as being ordered STAT.
  • Basic Metabolic Profile (BMP)
  • Blood Cultures
  • Cardiac Enzymes
  • CBC w/ automated Diff
  • Electrolytes
  • Glucose
  • Potassium
  • PT/INR
  • PTT
  • Therapeutic Drug Levels
  • Urine Chemisty
  • Qualitative Beta HCG

ASAP processing is a request to expedite a lab order.  This turn-around time category prioritizes a test but there is no promise of a specific turn-around time.  Best effort is made to turn these tests around in 2 hours for short run tests and 4 hours for long-run tests.

ASAP processing is not available for bacteriology ID and sensitivity or batched tests.  Batched tests are either not available daily, or must be run in a group (i.e. tests that are run on 54 or 96 panel plates).

We view every test as important.  We strive to turn-around most tests that we run in-house on the same day they are ordered.  Some tests are not run on a daily basis or are referenced out to specialty laboratories if their frequency is insufficient to economically run the test in house.

Routine testing schedules and turn-around times are listed in the test directory.
